Rory Rees Brennan – 2009 Irish Poker Champion
“Bottom line is, you can’t beat being champion of your home country”.
Rory Rees Brennan resides in Killiney, Dublin. Aged 24 he has already graduated from UCD with a degree in Commerce. During college Rory would play regular games of poker with friends. Through these games he was able to gather enough money to really enjoy college. Rory turned professional four years ago aged just 20. He’s often found grinding the tables at Boylepoker who now sponsor him. His favourite game to play is PLO. He frequents the $10/$20 and $25/$50 PLO tables on Boylepoker. To date his biggest pot won online was $30,000. Rory is friends with pro’s Eoghan O’Dea and John O’Shea. Between them, they have netted over $2,000,000 through poker. Not bad for three friends!
Rory was named champion at the IPC in January 2009. Earning €160,000 for 1st place this was Rory’s biggest live win. He battled it out for 3 days and beat Chris Dowling heads-up. Rory also features at this year’s Pokerstars Late Night Poker which airs on RTE. He is up against John O’Shea in his heat and proves there are no friends at the table as he knocks John out.
When in Galway, Rory will always drop by The Eglinton for a game. He usually picks the party nights when he knows there’ll be a few drinks! He is confident he can pick up another IPC title and will be returning to retain his title.
