John Clancy – 2007 Irish Poker Champion
“The IPC is a well run, good structured tournament with a good prizepool and always great craic win or lose”.
John Clancy is Limerick’s IPC champion. Aged 37, John is currently a Commercial Manager in Limerick city. He is married with two children and has no doubt that they will become poker players too. John is from a family of card players and there was always a deck or two around at every family event. He has been playing card games and variations of poker for the past 20 years.
He picked up Texas Hold’em about 5 years ago, just as Pokerevents began a weekly game in Limerick. John played as much as he could and learned a lot about the game in a short space of time. He played a side event at the IPC in 2006 and came 5th. The next year he decided to give it his all for the main event. John qualified for the 2007 IPC in a last minute satellite in Limerick. He played superb poker throughout the main event and everything fell into place. He scooped the win and went home with €114,000. John was over the moon after the event.
John has kept quiet at the live poker tables but he hadn’t turned his back on the game. Instead, he chooses to play online at Mansion Poker and Full Tilt Poker. ‘Niacon’, as he is known at the online tables, has had a steady stream of wins. His largest online win has been $42,000. Enough to keep him going for a while! It’s about time John has another win at the live tables and what better place to do than the IPC.
