Kieran “Flipper” Walsh – 2006 Irish Poker Champion

“I, like every other poker player in Ireland have the date of the Irish Poker Championships circled on my calendar months in advance. No other event offers the same value, excitement and atmosphere. I’m proud to have won this great event before and I’m hoping I can run good and go all the way this year”.
Kieran Walsh is one of Cork’s well known players. Aged 18 he came across Texas Hold’em and started playing frequently in the Macau Sporting Club. He continued playing tournaments in there and consistently reached the final table. At the same time he discovered the cash games. He started with a round-of-each game but felt he wasn’t learning much. He took some time out and played online to improve his Omaha game. He clearly picked up something as he was soon turning a tidy profit.
Around this time he travelled to Dublin to play the IPC in January 2006. He came through the biggest field to date and claimed 1st place. 2006 was a good year for Kieran and he featured at many final tables around the country. His most recent win was in January of this year. He won the Celtic Poker Grand Final and the €37,000 1st prize. Kieran still plays regularly online. He seems to have found his feet playing the $100 tournaments. He has won a few of these, both freezeouts and rebuys. His biggest online win do date was qualifying for the Poker Million in 2006, netting him nearly $40,000.
Kieran is always a threat at the poker tables and most people are happy to see him knocked out. Will he be the first to make it a double at the IPC in December?
